  • Pet Diet and Pet Weight Management

You don’t like gaining a couple of extra pounds do you? Your pet doesn’t either.

Your pet probably has a great knack for encouraging you to give them snacks from time to time. Don’t be embarrassed; we’re all guilty of it. However, did you know that a few extra pounds around the middle can have the same negative impact on your companion’s wellbeing as it does on you?

Diet & weight managementIt doesn’t take long for an overweight animal to become disinterested in exercise. The more weight they’re carrying the more pressure they’re putting on their joints, causing them to tire quickly. In extreme cases, obese pets can become susceptible to serious health problems such as heart disease, diabetes and even cancer.

Keeping your pet eating right and exercising well doesn’t have to be difficult. It could be taking your dog for a long walk, dangling an ever-tempting shoelace in front of your feline or building an assault course for your rabbit, keeping your companion active will ultimately play a big part in their overall happiness.

So what should you be feeding your pet? The answer is, it depends. It depends on their species, age, breed, neuter status and many other factors. It is for that reason our team of knowledgeable vets and nurses are always happy to offer you expert advice to help keep the extra pounds at bay.

At Chapel House Vets we also offer a number of dedicated weight clinics so that our team of friendly nurses can monitor your pet’s weight and create bespoke diet and exercise plans for them, based on their needs and lifestyle.
