Don’t let your companion hold up your traveling plans – they need a passport too.

Planning a holiday or adventures abroad can be extremely exciting, but it can also be stressful. There are lots of things to arrange before you leave, and the last thing you need is a passenger without a passport.

Pet passport service from Chapel HouseAnimal passports can take a number of weeks to obtain, depending on the vaccinations your companion has had, so you’re recommended to begin the process of sorting a passport for your pet at least six weeks before you plan to travel.

In order for your pet to go away with you they will have to meet a number of requirements, including:

  • Having a rabies vaccination – If your companion hasn’t already been vaccinated against rabies, they may require a blood test a couple of weeks later to ensure they are protected (this can hold up the process)
  • Having a health check – One of our vets will examine your pet to make sure they’re healthy, up-to-date with their parasite treatments and don’t have any conditions that could be passed on to other animals
  • Authorisation – Once all of the above have been completed you can be issued with your pet’s passport

It’s important to remember that while on holiday your companion may be exposed to health conditions that aren’t present in this country. It’s therefore important that you speak with a member of our friendly team before you travel to ensure that you are taking all of the necessary precautions.

The government has recently published guidelines for travel with pets following the UK’s withdraw from Europe, for more information please click here.
