We are currently accepting applications for EMS placements at Chapel House Vets in Chesterfield– here’s some more information about what a placement might look like for you at our practice.
EMS student experience
We are happy to take on veterinary students from all stages. Opportunities will also be available for practical experience and will advance throughout each year of study.
Opportunities available for EMS students and working hours
Our EMS students typically attend clinics from 8am to 5pm on weekdays. While they are welcome to stay and study during evenings and weekends, we encourage them to maintain a healthy work-life balance and avoid overworking.
Students will see a mix of surgery and consults, with the opportunity to perform supervised procedures where appropriate.
What we expect from our EMS students and what they can expect in return
We expect students to get involved and not be afraid to ask questions and participate in all aspects of the job, both the fun parts and the less glamorous parts. We offer students the opportunity to perform procedures including blood sampling, catheter placement, some dentistry, x-ray positioning and simple surgeries, dependant on study year, their experience and confidence.
Travel and accommodation
Our Chesterfield branch is easily accessible by public transport with a train station being a 10-minute walk away and bus a stop just across the road.
We try to encourage use of public transport, walking and cycling as part of our Investors in the Environment Accreditation, but we do also have staff parking available about 100 metres away from the practice.
We are unable to offer accommodation on site, but our main practice is a 5-minute walk from the town centre, where there are several reasonably priced hotels.
